Differentiation for commodities

In a company focused on “getting things done”, SIT offers an achievable method to bring product innovation to life.

Following two successful SIT projects in the Netherlands, Ahold requested us to work on developing new applications for Films & Foils at US FoodService.

US FoodService distributes a braod range of products to horeca (hotels, restaurants, cafés) establishments and other institutions. The films & foils category accounts for a significant volume, but has not been awarded attention within the company’s innovation policy. There is also very little contact with the end-users which means not much knowledge is developed in terms of new applications, trends and preferences. The objective of the project was therefore to give attention to Films & Foils and to exchange knowledge whilst at the same time developing innovations for the Monarch brand that would help strengthen US FoodService’s position within the category.

Participants’ Feedback: “This is a new way of working for US Foodservice; interaction within the team and focus on innovation; we generated lots of ideas; new concepts came out of the combinationof knowledge & expertise, the synergy between teams, suppliers and operators.”

Project leader’s feedback: “I have raved to nearly everyone I've seen in the last week, strangers included, about you and your approach to Innovation.  Your material is good, and your delivery is even better.  By that, I mean, you are skillful in your ability to balance the dynamic of a sometimes unruly group against your need to follow an agenda and curriculum, discreetly keeping the participants on task.  I really enjoyed your workshop last week, as well as the socializing over dinners, and hope our paths will cross again before long.”
